Surasak (“Tik”), age 12 years

Tik is looked after by his mother. His father left four years ago, and nobody has heard from him since, except for the 1,000 Baht (20 Euro) he sends every year. Tik has ambition to become an electrician.

His father Pirom was a fisherman, but apparently abandoned his wife and child.....so, mother Bounram stayed behind, with Tik, half a hectare of farm land, and four cows. To make ends meet a farmer in Thailand needs at least 2-3 hectares. If Bounram is lucky she makes about 20.000 Baht (400 Euro) annually.

Tik lives in the village of Ban Tungko and planned to attend Tatum secondary school. This is a good school, but unfortunately 20 kilometres away. Taking the bus is too expensive, so Tik cycles to Ban Tra secondary school. He has good grades and loves science subjects.

It’s difficult for Bounram to afford the yearly 10,000 Baht (200 Euro) fees. She wants very much that Tik continues with his studies, and thus will have a better future.

”Learning for Living” has decided to support Tik through six years of secondary school. The annual costs amount to 20,000 Baht (400 Euro), of which L4L and the family each pay fifty percent.
