Sakapan (“Toe”), age 13 years

Toe has the same bright eyes as his father. ”I have also the same socks”, he says laughing – they are full of holes. His parents are running a tiny farm, where Toe helps out every day. In the future he wants to become a teacher.

Wiyada, his mother, and Supap his father have three children, and Toe is the eldest. The family lives off a single hectare farm land in Ban Tungko. Money is tight – in a good year the farm provides them an annual income of about 25,000 Baht (500 Euro).

Originally Toe wanted to become a doctor, but he has changed his mind. He now wants to become a teacher. Like some other kids, he also hoped to go to Tatum secondary school, 20 kilometers from the village. However, the extra bus costs made it too expensive. He is now going to Ban Tra secondary school where he has good grades. He especially likes maths.

Toe also helps his father rice planting and thus has not much time to play with his friends. His father never had the chance to study – he is very keen that Toe attends to school and fulfils his ambition.

”Learning for Living” has decided to support Toe through six years of secondary school. The annual costs amount to 20,000 Baht (400 Euro), of which L4L and the family each pay fifty percent.
